Cassia absus is a herb common in India It is found in mainly in western parts of India.It is found every where in India. From western Himalayas to Sri-Lanka it grows freely. It is found all over the world in the tropical region. It is sticky plant that attains a height of about 1-2 foot. There is present a nodule in the axel of the leaf. Leaves are of biter and astringent in nature. Flowers are one to two inch in length. It bears seeds that are 5 in number and flat with shiny texture. The seed pulp is yellowish in color. The seed pulp contains1.5% Chaksine and Isochaksine. These are the major constituents that are water soluble. Seeds also contain various oils. There is also present various alkaloids and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, iron and zinc. Besides these it also contains vitamins like thiamine and riboflavin.
